lyrics
One day by the M6 I was standing with my thumb out
And the traffic was passing by as it does
And a Telecom van drove by
They don’t ever stop, they’re not allowed
So when he pulled over I shouted out loud
“Hooray” and ran down the sliproad of the motorway
My bag in hand,
I’d been there for an hour and the wind it wasn’t grand
I ran up to him saying, “Hello mate, have you stopped for me?”
“No” he says, “I’m not allowed, but did you see that blue budgie?”
“Pardon?” says I, “a budgie?”
“Yes, blue. Yes, in the middle of the road, blue
Didn’t you see him too?”
I had to be honest and say I didn’t have a clue.
I’ve been here for an hour
Looked at every plant and blade of grass
With nothing to see except cars pass
“A blue budgie?” I thought, “my arse”
“But he was there” he insisted
And my smile it was twisted
As he searched the grassy verges for little blue birdies
Then after ten minutes he gives up with a sigh
“I can’t find the little fella, if he’s left out he’ll die”
“I’ll keep an eye out mate” I reply
And I shrugged and smiled and glanced around
Looking for a blue budgie, hopping on the ground
But the little blue bugger was nowhere to be found
