Dub Section is made from recycled master tapes – remixes, reworkings and out-takes from Brynovsky’s back catalogue. Rumba Queen is a dub of an out-take from the Hard Curves sessions in 2010. The vibraphone-laced track was played live by the Brynovsky dub band back in 2011 and is dedicated to a Jamaican dancer who died far too young in the 1960’s. Power Vacuum is a dub of Power, another roots-infused track taken from Time Is Now (2014), originally voiced by Leroy Jones (The Congos). Half the Dub in the World is a dub of Half the Wealth in the World which appeared on the Future Weather album (2020) highlighting the inequalities of the billionaire macro-economy. Dub Shining is a dub of Shining Light from the Time Is Now album and features a very young MJ, whose backing vocals appeared on the original track, and a couple of snippets from Idana who sang with Brynovsky between 2012 and 2017. Red Forest is a dub of Into a Dream from the Hard Curves album and is named after a poisoned forest in northern Ukraine. CMYK Culture is a dub of Mischief from the Hard Curves album and celebrates multiculturalism. Spycops is a dub of Brynovsky’s own remix of Put the Baby Down to Sleep, originally on the Time Is Now album and played by Tom Robinson (TRB) on his BBC6 Music show, dedicated to the activist women whose long-term partners turned out to be undercover officers from the Met. Hitchhiker’s Dub is a reworking of Blue Budgie, a non-album track featuring the enigmatic poem by Ju Ju. Hypnotherapy is a dub of a non-album track from 2017 called Hypnotize which featured vocals and lyrics from Idana (who was given her stage name when she met the late, great Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry). City of Bytes is a dub of popular track City of Lights from the Time Is Now album, championed and put on repeat by Paris radio station #RKC. Peace It Together is a minimal dub of Freedom for the People, the final track on Time Is Now, which was given a spin on Amazing Radio by Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins, Bella Union). The collection closes with Metamorphosis, a remix of the unreleased second part or reprise of title track, Losing Control, originally released on the limited edition EP in 2014. Engineered by producer and Brynovsky frontman, Tim Jones, Dub Section uses their own original master tracks, stripped back, fed into outboard effects and recorded back in real time, in the spirit of dub pioneers like King Tubby, Scientist, Linval Thompson, Dennis Bovell and Lee Perry.
